1st January 2023

Dear All,

Happy New Year to all readers! Christmas was good but it is soon over even though it seemed like a long week at the time! There were just the 3 of us on Christmas Day so we were quiet and orderly but were able to play a full whack of games!

On Monday Kate and I took advantage of the sunshine to walk round the Fen while Ben caught up with mates.

Cuckoo Drove

Mary-Ann, Andy, Amḗlie & Albert arrived at 2.30pm after a queue at the Dartford Tunnel and Esther & Emma arrived 7ish accompanied by two newly acquired Kittens – Christmas entertainment taken care of!

Full cast lunch

We had a trip to Coton Garden Centre on Tuesday morning as Amḗlie was keen to snap up some Christmas decoration bargains.

Ben left on Wednesday morning still suffering from sore ribs, Adrian called and I thanked him for his present of cheese – only to discover that he had given us a book! We then went to Old Hurst to the Crocodile farm. This has grown considerably since our last visit with 30-40 crocodiles as well as snakes, deer, parrots, meercats a bear, lynx and puma.

In the afternoon Albert donned an apron and whisked up a very acceptable Yule Log.

All our remaining visitors left on Thursday morning and Kate and I walked round the village distributing Esther’s Christmas cards!

On Friday after a quick trip to Tesco’s we visited Welney Wetland Centre together with Adrian. There was only a handful of swans but a large crowd of ducks: Pochards, Mallards and Tufted. The water level was very high and feeding was as usual very exciting.

Saturday was really wet and miserable so I spent most of the day preparing the annual review for the chapel social.
