2nd October 2022

Dear All,

It is Harvest Thanksgiving weekend at chapel. We had a speaker from A Rocha, a Christian Environmental organisation at the Harvest Supper last night and a farmer speaking at this morning’s service. The meal was well attended and decorations up to normal standards.

Not too much excitement this week, on Monday it was a swim followed by the dentist and digging Elsom’s garden. On Tuesday it was a flu jab in Cambridge followed by an ex NIAB lunch at Girton golf club and demolition of the Runner bean canes. Wednesday, I dug the bean land, emptied a compost bin and attended a church group in the afternoon.

Our Thursday walk started at Babraham and looped through Stapleford, Wandlebury and the Roman Road. It was good walking conditions and a mixture of scenic wooded sections and some less exciting roads.

On Friday we had a trip to Bluntisham tip then on to St Ives to try shopping at Aldi followed by a trip to Witcham to top up the vegetable display. We received 8.5 mm rain in the night so I was able to work some of the garden ready for overwintered alliums and broad beans.

On Saturday Dave and I watched Witchford 2 v 6 West Wratting in a wind affected match.

We received photos from last week’s cricket presentations. We were photographed with the head groundsman at Chelmsford who was responsible for the strip on which 26 wickets fell on the day we were there – perhaps we should have offered him some advice?

Kate and I are off to Bowland in a week’s time. The holiday starts on Sunday 9th but as we are leading one of the walks on the first day, we are going up early to carry out a recce.

Love
