3rd July 2022

Dear All,

Highlight this week has been a trip to Hove to view the new house and help where we could. The house is very nicely situated adjacent to the large Hove Park and opposite the landmark “Goldstone” thought to have been the site of Druid worship. The front of the house is attractive and there is a decent garden. The inside requires a lot of TLC needing some scrubbing, decoration and awaiting carpets throughout.

I started in the garden, cutting grass, removing two bushes, lopping boughs off two trees and digging up paving slabs. This revealed a nest of slow worms which I hadn’t seen for about 50 years!

Kate meanwhile was scrubbing various rooms and removing myriads of staples from the stairs. In addition, we took Albert to and from school which is a decent walk of 20-25 minutes as Mary-Ann was accompanying Amḗlie for a couple of introductory days at her new school, which she is scheduled to start in September. Amḗlie will be 11 next Tuesday and spent time planning and filling party bags as she has 5 friends sleeping over night in their bell tent.

Meanwhile in the rest of the world we had a Cemetery Committee on Monday night – life does not get much more exciting than that! Then on Tuesday night I was at Sandy for a CEEM meeting to debrief Phil who has just returned from a successful trip to Moldova. He managed to see all 5 pastors, took part in numerous church activities and visited two refugee centres. The main refugee reception camp is near the Ukrainian border at Palenka. They receive a couple of coach loads of refugees every day who are fed and watered and if it is late bedded for the night before passing them on to bigger centres in Chisinau. Local churches supply and prepare all the food.

We prepared the cricket wicket before travelling on Wednesday and called in to visit Glynis who was just home after a major operation.

I was surprised to find a good harvest of Climbing French beans on our return as well as a few courgettes and tomatoes and the first cucumber.

Esther has had an eye problem being unable to open one of them earlier in the week but was thankfully improving and she was able to accompany Emma to Wimbledon on Friday.

Over managed to score 241 for 4 yesterday – but still lost! – must be a good wicket!

love
