1st March 2026

           Dear All,

After swimming “Just Vegetating” this week was “Potatoes” and Kate prepared Spicy Potato with Tahini and Soy, Curate’s Pudding and Celeriac, Potato and Mushroom Gratin. Later she planted 50 snowdrop bulbs in the garden.

I had another doctor’s appointment on Tuesday and he said your blood test results are like an 18 year old apart from being very low for vitamin D, consequently I don’t think he thinks I can be very ill which is not how it feels to me! So it is keep taking vitamin D, Paracetamol and fresh air!

In the evening I took Mervyn and Adrian to the Local History meeting which was a good session on Basil Brown, the man who started the discoveries at Sutton Hoo. He left school at 12 and initially worked on his father’s farm but his heart was not in it and he studied Archaeology and Astronomy whenever he could at night classes. He eventually gave up farming and was employed by Ipswich Museum to carry out digs. Mrs Pretty the landowner at Sutton Hoo was curious about the 18 mounds on her land and employed him to start investigating in 1938. He found enough to carry on in 1939 but got a bit elbowed aside by trained archaeologists from Cambridge University but he was given full credit for his finds.

After Church Group on Wednesday I worked on the Moldova talks and sent a couple of emails to Moldova.

On Thursday I did a short walk round the village while Kate took the Guided Bus to St Ives and walked back recording the flood water on the way.

The Biography subject this week was Jennie Lee the Labour politician. She was a Scottish miner’s daughter who was an MP from 1929 to 1931 then again from 1945 to 1970. She was married to Nye Bevan and was Minister for Arts in Harold Wilson’s government and involved with the founding of the Open University.
